Terminal User Guide
The Mac Terminal is a command line system that can help you quickly take control of your operating system and make changes. Getting to the Terminal app is easy — you can navigate via your Mac’s Finder or through Spotlight. ITerm2 is a replacement for Terminal and the successor to iTerm. It works on Macs with macOS 10.12 or newer. ITerm2 brings the terminal into the modern age with features you never knew you always wanted. Why Do I Want It? Check out the impressive features and screenshots. If you spend a lot of time in a terminal, then you'll appreciate all the.
Each window in Terminal represents an instance of a shell process. The window contains a prompt that indicates you can enter a command. The prompt you see depends on your Terminal and shell preferences, but it often includes the name of the host you’re logged in to, your current working folder, your user name, and a prompt symbol. For example, if a user named michael is using the default zsh shell, the prompt appears as:
This indicates that the user named michael is logged in to a computer named MacBook-Pro, and the current folder is his home folder, indicated by the tilde (~).
